Love Your Melon is Fighting Against Cancer In A Cozy Way

Love your melon is an apparel brand that donates hats and proceeds to children battling cancer in America while also supporting other non-profit organizations that are involved in fighting against pediatric cancer. Since its launch on October 22nd, 2012, this brand has donated over $2 Million, they have also donated over 90,000 beanies and have established 12,600 members across 50 states.

Over 15,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer each year and Love Your Melon works hard to connect with each of them. Love Your Melon shifted from being a single location company into a national on campus program at universities across the United States. The students that run each on-campus program dedicate their time to helping children battling cancer. These members raise awareness for childhood cancer and represent Love Your Melon nationwide through on campus engagement and events. Bridgewater State University has their own on campus Love Your Melon BSU program. Each year the members of this organization coordinate and host beanie donation events. They increase engagement and education through social media, involvement and in person engagements on the BSU campus.

After discovering a personal connection with Charlie Carlisle the National Program Director of Love Your Melon, I was able to obtain more information about this cause and why the men and women at Love Your Melon are inspired by the work that they are doing. Here are some quotes that were obtained by LYM campus crew all across the country!

"This adventure was incredible!! Our crew had so much fun getting to know Travis, Tony, Laurie, and Tony. We all agreed it was the best sporting event we've been to yet! Every time the JUMBOTRON went to fans, we were up there dancing away. Travis and Tony wanted to help us spread the mission so we passed out LYM bracelets and stickers to as many people as we could. After the game, we got to go down onto the court to meet the Magic's Small Forward, Aaron Gordon! He signed autographs, took pictures, and hung out with all of us before it was time to go. This was definitely a night for the books. - Aly Plahm, Superhero Adventure - Crew Captain at the University of Central Florida
"The hospital visit was fun & life changing! Our crew got very inspired listening to the families stories. It was fulfilling to see the smiles on each child's face and laughs when we gave them a beanie and played with them. It was fun playing with them before their hospital appointment because it got their minds off their fears for a second. We were reminded of how lucky we are to be a part of such an amazing organization when we spent time with each child in the hospital today." -Amber Thompson, Hospital Visit - Crew Captain at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

"The adventure was more perfect than we could have ever imagined! We started our day off at the football game, Christian and his brother Jay running out onto the field and being the honorary co-captains of the game. At the end of the first quarter, the announcer put Christian's picture on the big screen, said a short paragraph about Love Your Melon and Christian, and had the whole audience give him a round of applause! We then moved to a firefighter exhibition, where our Fire Science Club partnered with West Haven Fire Department to give Christian and his brother a one-on-one experience with the trucks and firefighters. They gave them each their own suits and gear, got to ride around campus in the truck, and even got to press the horn! From there, we moved to a superhero certification test hosted by Spiderman and Batman. Both superheroes completed their test, and were given some awesome FBI swag afterward by one of our alumni who flew back to CT from DC just to spend the day with us! After the certification test, we finished our day with a long table lunch (APEX) style with all of Christian's favorite foods, and watched the Minions movie! It was an incredible day, and we cannot be more grateful to our campus community coming together for Christian and his family. -Tricia Lasasso, Superhero Adventure - Crew Captain at the University of New Haven

"Our Crew had an AMAZING time going room to room donating hats and seeing the direct impact LYM has on these kiddos. I asked everyone on my crew to send me their favorite moment of today, and the commonality in everyone's response was that this event was "priceless and heartwarming." There is nothing in this world that can compare to the joy felt when you walk into a room and see faces light up with excitement. The mission of Love Your Melon is so simple but so meaningful and we are so grateful to play a small part. - Samantha Russell, Hospital Visit -Crew Captain at the University of Houston
